EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

The Board of Directors is responsible for their committee responsibilities and attending Board Meetings. The Board governs the PTO by creating and voting on action items and expenses related to school events and programs.

  • The President oversees the direction and activities of the PTO and presides at all Board meetings and Townwide meetings.  The President shall be a member ex-officio of all committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed. The President is a liaison between the PTO, the school Principal, and the administration. The President helps the school and the PTO operate as a cohesive unit.

  • The Vice President shall serve as an aide to the President and act as President if the President cannot act for any reason. The Vice President shall serve as the Elementary School Chair and perform such functions as shall be delegated by the President or the Board.

  • The Treasurer of Expenses oversees PTO funds, focusing on budgeting, recording, and reporting expenses accurately

  • The Treasurer of Revenues oversees PTO funds, focusing on budgeting, recording, and reporting revenues accurately.

  • The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of all PTO and Board of Directors general meetings and shall perform other duties as may be delegated by the President or the Board

  • The Director of Communications shall direct the Social Media Chair and be responsible for creating and distributing the PTO Newsletter, maintaining the Constant Contact database, and updating the PTO website. The director shall assist with creating and distributing publicity for programs and special events, as the various committee coordinators 

  • The Director of Fundraising oversees the Fundraising Committee and serves on the PTO Board of Directors.

TOWNWIDE POSITIONS

The Townwide positions are responsible for unifying the efforts of the entire district to operate cohesively.

  • The Social Media Chair, under the direction of the Director of Communications, is responsible for distributing PTO-related content on the PTO Facebook pages. The Social Media Chair may interact with Board Members or Committee Chairs throughout the year to publicize PTO programs, events, and news as needed.

  • The Hospitality Committee is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere at events and meetings sponsored by the PTO for coordinating hospitality at all events sponsored by the Holliston PTO. The Hospitality Coordinators will directly assist the President and the School Administration in planning, coordinating, and implementing this function at all events and meetings. The Hospitality Committee shall chair the Back-to-School Breakfast Coordinators, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Events Coordinators, and Teacher and Staff Professional Day Coordinators. Welcoming and synergistic relationships are paramount to our PTO mission; therefore, the Hospitality Chairs will also guide our Community Relationship Coordinators and our Volunteer Relationship Coordinators.

  • At the beginning of each school year, the PTO treats districtwide staff to breakfast at the school. Under the direction of the Hospitality Chairs, the BTSB Coordinators will be responsible for leading the execution of the event under the direction of the Hospitality Committee Chairs. Responsibilities could include monitoring volunteers, researching pricing and food options, and generating fresh ideas.

  • The PTO treats districtwide staff with appreciation gestures throughout the school year. These Coordinators will be responsible for leading the execution of the events under the direction of the Hospitality Committee Chairs. Responsibilities could include monitoring volunteers, researching pricing and food options, and generating fresh ideas.

  • Throughout the school year, the PTO treats districtwide staff with appreciation gestures during their Professional Days. Historically, coffee and light breakfast items have been served three to four mornings a year. Under the direction of the Hospitality Chairs, these Coordinators will be responsible for leading the execution of the events under the direction of the Hospitality Committee Chairs. Responsibilities could include monitoring volunteers, researching pricing and food options, and generating fresh ideas.

  • The Holliston PTO engages with the Town of Holliston in many facets/capacities throughout the year.  Under the direction of the Hospitality Chairs, his position will act as a liaison between the PTO and our community. Responsibilities include event planning, seeking community engagement opportunities aligned with our mission, and spreading information on behalf of our partners via our PTO Facebook pages. Current annual events include the Police Department’s Walk & Roll to School and the Town of Holliston’s Celebrate Holliston Field Day. Other community partners include Holliston Youth and Family Services (HYFS), Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition (HDAAC), Holliston Education Foundation (HEF), and Holliston Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). The Community Relation Coordinators have the authority to form any necessary sub-committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed.

  • Volunteers are integral to the success of our mission.  In this newly added position, under the direction of the Hospitality Chairs, these coordinators will seek to understand how our PTO can best show volunteers appreciation, provide adequate training and support, encourage volunteer feedback, and help place volunteers in appropriate, rewarding roles. Together with the Hospitality Chairs, these coordinators will take steps forward to enhance our volunteer experience further. Please note that this role will not be responsible for staffing specific events; that will remain the responsibility of the event coordinators. 

  • The Fundraising Committee Chairs are responsible for coordinating any activity whose main purpose is to raise funds for the Holliston PTO. The Fundraising Committee Chairs shall coordinate existing fundraising activities for programs that further the mission of the PTO. The Fundraising Committee Chairs shall annually evaluate the fundraising goals of the PTO in conjunction with the Executive Treasurers and develop new fundraising opportunities. 

  • The Fall Townwide Fundraising Coordinators shall lead a districtwide fall fundraising event. They will be responsible for planning and executing the fundraiser under the direction of the Fundraising Committee Chairs.

  • The Spring Townwide Fundraising Coordinators shall lead a districtwide early spring fundraising event. They will be responsible for planning and executing the fundraiser under the direction of the Fundraising Committee Chairs.

  • The PTO sells Holliston spirit wear and merchandise to encourage school spirit. At the direction of the Fundraising Committee Chairs, Spirit Wear Coordinators will help choose the spirit wear to sell twice throughout the school year and work with our vendor to get the sales site up and running. We want to add other spirit merchandise in the current year, so researching and helping execute opportunities would also be a responsibility in this role.

  • A membership drive is a targeted campaign designed to attract new members to the PTO and help existing members renew. Under the direction of the Fundraising Committee Chairs, the Membership Drive Coordinators will research, plan, and execute a drive at our annual Back-to-School Palooza event in late August. 

  • Mindshare is a parent education program. At the direction of the PTO President, the Chair will be responsible for planning events, seminars, and workshops with quality programming that educates and offers insights into overcoming the challenges we face as parents/guardians. 

  • At the end of each school year, the PTO awards a college scholarship to a deserving senior. At the direction of the Senior College Scholarship Committee, the Selection Committee will read and rate student essays and select the recipient. 

  • From January through early February (5 weeks), the PTO facilitates a ski and snowboard club that transports RAMS and Miller students from Holliston to Nashoba Valley and High School students from Holliston to Wachusett. At the direction of the PTO President, the Townwide Ski/Snowboard Club Chairperson ensures the (already set up) registration system is working well, contracts with the mountains (Nashoba Valley and Wachusett), and contracts with the bus company (Fox Bus Lines) that transports students to the mountain. The chairperson also promotes and communicates program details and registration info to parents and students and plans the rental equipment fit night. The Chairperson also oversees the school-level Ski/Snowboard Coordinators, providing lists and information to them as the coordinators run the program week-to-week at each school. The Chairperson is not responsible for the weekly departures from the schools and does not need to be there unless they want to chaperone or simply want to go along and ski. The Chairperson receives a free pass for the program dates if they would like.

    • Timeframe: Short-term commitment: November through January (5-10 hours total during November & December; 1 hour/week January – early February while the program is active)

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL POSITIONS (PLACENTINO & MILLER)

The Elementary positions have a narrowed focus on making a difference for our Pre-K through 5th-grade students.

  • The Elementary School Chair shall serve as the year-round leader of all Elementary School PTO positions and shall preside at all Elementary PTO meetings. The Chair shall be a member ex-officio of all Elementary committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed. The Elementary School Chair is the primary communicator between the PTO Board, the Elementary school Principals, and the Elementary Administration.

  • At the beginning of each school year, the PTO leads the process of identifying dedicated parent/guardian volunteers for each classroom. This position leads the organizational process of sourcing these Elementary Classroom Coordinators under the direction of the Elementary School Chair. This “behind-the-scenes” work requires sending emails, updating spreadsheets, and updating sign-up Genius.

    Elementary Classroom Coordinators: Elementary Classroom Coordinators (formerly known as room parents) coordinate with the classroom teacher for any desired events such as craft days or class parties, create and maintain the class directory, may coordinate holiday/teacher appreciation/end-of-year gifts for teachers, and share PTO communications with their class lists. The process for volunteering for this role is conducted through the Elementary Classroom Coordinator Leader at the beginning of each school year.



  • Placentino and Miller School Culture Connection/Assemblies Coordinators will work with the PTO Elementary School Chair and each school's Assistant Principals to bring in assemblies and enrichment opportunities for students. This may involve continuing previous experiences and coordinating logistics for the school year or brainstorming and developing new ideas with the Assistant Principals or other interested parents/guardians. Some past enrichment activities included author visits, Dino-Man Assembly, Science Program from the Discovery Museum, and more. We would prefer to have coordinators for each school.


  • Elementary Science Day Committee: Several years ago, a Science Day was held at the Elementary school on a Saturday morning featuring interactive science activities.  We would love to bring this event back to life! This position would be great for someone with a passion for science and/or ideas about how to bring more science into the lives of elementary students in a fun event.  It is very flexible, so you can do whatever you want to do with it!     Kindergarten Back-to-School Meetups Committee: The PTO hosts several playdates on the Kindergarten playground at Placentino in August before school starts. These events are aimed at easing the transition to kindergarten for both the students and their parents/guardians. Members of the Meetups Committee will be present to welcome families and answer any questions they may have. Marissa Santos, Sarah Kane & Open for additional volunteers

    Kindergarten Pumpkin Stroll Committee: Each October, the Kindergarten classes decorate pumpkins, stroll outside the school, wave to their proud parents, and sing a few adorable fall songs.  The PTO creates a “pumpkin patch” for the children to pick their pumpkins from.  This role requires coordination with a local farm to purchase pumpkins (thank you, Outpost!) and coordinating volunteers through a sign-up genius to pick up pumpkins and deliver them to Placentino School in mid-October.     Pre-K & Kindergarten Carnival Committee: Preschoolers and Kindergarteners have a fun field day to celebrate the end of the school year. Think face painting, temporary tattoos, and waterplay! In coordination with the teachers, the Carnival Committee plans and prepares the carnival, purchases reimbursable event supplies, and coordinates volunteers through a signup genius to make the day successful!     3rd Grade 18-Century Day Committee: Third graders take an annual field trip to the Holliston Historical Society in late April.  Terri Chamberlain of the Historical Society does an amazing job planning all the events for the days.  She asks for 3-4 Coordinators to help her during the field trip. These coordinators share the signup genius with third-grade Classroom Coordinators, help parent volunteers don their 18th-century attire at the beginning of shifts, and help as needed. Two coordinators should be there each day, so if there are multiple coordinators, it is not a full-week commitment, and there is minimal planning. Jane Berkholtz, Open for more!

    Elementary Field Day Committee: Miller and Placentino Field Day Coordinators do an amazing job planning stations for grade-level field days in June and coordinating volunteers for the events!

    Ice Cream Social Committee: This committee plans the annual Ice Cream Social to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer, bringing the school community together for this delicious, free event! Open

    Math-A-Palooza Committee: Ashley Bouchard, Elementary Math Specialist, plans a phenomenal Math-a-Palooza in March. Our PTO liaison helps coordinate funding and purchasing of materials and assists with any volunteer needs. The time commitment is 1-2 hours. Open

    Marker Recycling Committee: Susan Came (kindergarten teacher) and Kathryn Jackson (Montessori 3-6) lead the staff Placentino Green Team. At the direction of the Green Team, The Marker Recycling Committee's responsibilities include organizing the collection of old markers for recycling, coordinating with the teachers for marker pick-up from Placentino, and dropping off the markers at the Staples recycling bin. This is a year-round role, taking approximately 30 minutes per month. Katie Ryan

    Elementary Book Fair Committee: Lynda Canal, the elementary librarian, runs an elementary book fair in the fall and spring. She coordinates with book fair companies (i.e., Scholastic, Aesop’s Fable, etc.) and hosts the fairs within the Elementary Schools. The Book Fair Committee would support Lynda with any needs, including managing the cash-register volunteer signup process, on Signup Genius, helping with set up/break down (or coordinating volunteers for this), working with the Executive Treasurer of Expenses to provide appropriate change for the change boxes and whatever other support is needed.     School Picture Day Committee: The School Picture Day Committee supports elementary administration in various tasks on picture day. This may involve recruiting volunteers using Sign-up Genius, organizing and coordinating volunteers to manage day-of operations, assisting with directing classes and staff to different photo locations and helping students wait in line. Committee members can opt to be present on-site for the day of photos or can assign another volunteer to oversee the day of operations. Jane Berkholtz

    Family Reading Night Committee: Several years ago, the PTO held Family Reading Nights throughout the year.  We’d love to bring these back! This position would coordinate with the school administrators to plan Family Reading Nights at school.  These events would last approx. 1 hour and may include teachers, parents, or community leaders reading aloud and/or cozy spots for kids to read to themselves.     Elementary Back-to-School Picnic Committee: This committee plans the event to celebrate the start of the school year by bringing the Elementary school community together for this festive, free event! - Open

  • Under the direction of the Townwide Ski & Snowboard Club Chair, the Miller Coordinators supervise the weekly trips to/from Nashoba on five Thursday nights from early January through early February. Coordinator duties include checking students in, supervising students, assigning parent/guardian chaperones weekly duties, and sending weekly reminder emails to participants' parents/guardians. Coordinators and chaperones can ski or snowboard for free for the program dates, including rental equipment if needed. 


  • The Color Run is an annual ½ mile fun-run event held just before the start of the school year. The event focuses less on raising money and more on camaraderie and creating an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces before the first day of school. These Coordinators will be responsible for helping with planning and executing a well-run event under the direction of the Fundraising Committee Chairs.

  • Elementary Read-a-Thon coordinators run the spring annual fundraiser, where we make reading fun! Coordinators devise themes and incentives to drum up engagement from students, teachers, and families.


  • Square One is a company that helps the PTO raise money by printing student art on items like mugs, bags, and potholders. The position involves working with Elementary art teachers and connecting with our account manager at Square One.

  • The Holliston PTO has partnered with several local businesses that give back to our school a percentage of qualifying purchases. This year-round position (1-hr/month) would reach out to restaurants and venues to set up Holliston PTO Nights/Days and work with our Director of Communications and Social Media Chair to advertise to the elementary school community. In past years, we’ve had events with Urban Air, Bazels, Bertucci’s, and many others! This is a great position if you have a few spare moments during your workday to make a quick phone call or send an email!


MIDDLE SCHOOL POSITIONS (ROBERT ADAMS - RAMS)

The RAMS positions have a narrowed focus on making a difference for our 6th through 8th grade students. 

  • The RAMS Chair shall serve as the year-round leader of all Middle School PTO positions and preside at all Elementary PTO meetings. The Chair shall be a member ex-officio of all Middle School committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed. The Middle School Chair is the primary communicator between the PTO Board, the Middle school Principal, and the Middle School Administration. 

  • Under the direction of the Middle School Chair, the Class of 2029 Coordinators will work jointly with the 2030 and 2031 Class Coordinators to provide an additional level of schoolwide leadership and communication with teachers and administration. This position will play an integral role in keeping the traditional NHS Winter Dance, Read-a-thon, and assemblies a continuing part of the middle school experience. The 2029 Coordinator will also oversee the formation and direct the annual 8th Grade Community Service Day Committee and 8th Grade Year-End Celebration Committee.

  • The 8th Grade Year-End Celebration is a fun celebratory event organized by the parents and guardians of 8th-grade students at the end of the school year. The planning for this June event will be overseen by the Class of 2029 Coordinator and will start in mid-spring.

  • Under the direction of the Middle School Chair, the Class of 2030 Coordinators will work jointly with the 2029 and 2031 Class Coordinators to provide an additional level of schoolwide leadership and communication with teachers and administration. This position will play an integral role in keeping the traditional NHS Winter Dance, Read-a-thon, and assemblies a continuing part of the middle school experience. The 2030 Coordinator will also oversee the formation and direct the annual 7th Grade Middle-of-the-Middle Committee.

  • "The Middle-of-the-Middle" is a fun event organized by the parents and guardians of 7th-grade students in the middle of the school year. It is not sponsored by the PTO, and any extra funds raised from ticket sales will be saved for high school graduation events. The planning for this January event will be overseen by the Class of 2030 Coordinator and will start in late fall.

  • Under the direction of the Middle School Chair, the Class of 2031 Coordinators will work jointly with the 2029 and 2030 Class Coordinators to provide an additional level of schoolwide leadership and communication with teachers and administration. This position will play an integral role in keeping the traditional NHS Winter Dance, Read-a-thon, and assemblies a continuing part of the middle school experience. The 2031 Coordinator will also oversee the formation of and direct the annual 6th Grade Glow Party Committee.

  • The glow party is a fun event organized by the parents/guardians of 6th-grade students. This event is not sponsored by the PTO, and any extra funds raised from ticket sales will be saved for use in high school graduation events. The committee for this event will be led by the Class of 2031 Coordinator and the date of the event will be coordinated based on the committee's availability.

  • This committee will be directed and guided by the RAMS Class of 2029, 2030, and 2031 Coordinators with National Honor Society Students. Planning will commence in late fall.

  • This committee will be directed and guided by the RAMS administrators- usually the Assistant Principal and the Curriculum Coordinator for ELA - and class of 2029, 2030, and 2031 Coordinators. Planning will commence in late fall. 

  • Under the direction of the Townwide Ski & Snowboard Club Chair, the RAMS Coordinators supervise the weekly trips to/from Nashoba on five Thursday nights from early January through early February. Coordinator duties include checking students in, supervising students, assigning parent/guardian chaperones weekly duties, and sending weekly reminder emails to participants' parents/guardians. Coordinators and chaperones can ski or snowboard for free for the program dates, including rental equipment if needed. 

HIGH SCHOOL POSITIONS

The High School positions have a narrowed focus on making a difference for our 9th through 12th grade students.

  • The HHS Chair shall serve as the year-round leader of all High School PTO positions and preside at all High School PTO meetings. The Chair shall be a member ex-officio of all High School committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed. The High School Chair is the primary communicator between the PTO Board, the High School Principal, and the High School Administration.

  • Responsible for generating party ideas for consideration by administration and then execution the event itself. This is not a PTO-sponsored event, although the PTO does partially fund it.

  • Each year, as part of this Senior class tradition, students come together to welcome and close out their senior year by watching the sun rise and fall. The coordinator's role will involve ensuring that event promotions and reminders are posted on the Class of 2025 Facebook page.

  • This committee will oversee the formation of the townwide Scholarship Selection Committee. Planning will commence in early spring.


  • This student-led scavenger hunt service event is a “hunt for food” for the food pantry. The committee, which will gather volunteers to chaperone the hunt and promote it to the community.


  • Each year in late August the Senior and Junior classes host Back-to-school Palooza at the High School. This committee’s role will entail working with student organizers to plan and execute the event. Planning will commence in May of 2025.
